The Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce is one of the pillar organizations of this community. It sponsors or works at almost every community event year round. In addition, it distributes grants and scholarships to deserving members of the community. This is no small task and fundraising is always a concern. American Legion members have seen the good work that the CVCoC does and wants to help out.

“They support us so much, so we’re trying to help them,” said Mike Baldwin of American Legion Post 288. “They’ve been very supportive of our events over the years and partnered with us to do the [refurbishment of the] Two Strike [War Memorial] and [helped with] Armed Forces Day that we had last May.”

The American Legion Post 288 on La Crescenta Avenue will host a bingo night to benefit the CVCoC this Saturday, Feb. 27. There will be 13 bingo games throughout the night – 10 regular games and three bonus games. Of the 10 regular games, the winners of the first nine will receive $100 per game and the winner of the 10th game, a blackout game, will receive $400, courtesy of the Valley Automotive Group. Donations have been streaming in for the event and groups from around the area have donated to the event to ensure a successful night.

However, the tickets were very popular as of press time and they are now sold out. For those lucky enough to already have a ticket, it promises to be a good time.

“It’s going to be a fun evening for those people who have tickets,” Baldwin said. “We’ll probably have 150 to 170 people and we’re giving away $1300 total – not bad odds!”

This is just one of the many events throughout the year that the veterans organization is involved in that benefits local groups. According to Baldwin, it’s just the right thing to do.

“We’re just trying to help them and be good neighbors,” he said.
