The Kaleidoscope Chamber Orchestra will be presenting two performances of its third concert series of the season on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 8 p.m. at the Glendale City Church located at 610 E. California Ave. in downtown Glendale and on Sunday, Feb. 28 at 3 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Santa Monica.

The program will consist of the “L’Ascension” by Oliver Messiaen and the west coast premiere of the “Bass Clarinet Concerto” by Jonathan Russell.   Benjamin Mitchell, founder and president of the orchestra, will be the featured bass clarinet soloist. Mitchell has performed with the Houston Symphony, the Aspen Music Festival, the Lucerne Festival Academy as well as with many of the prolific contemporary composers including Pierre Boulez, Elliot Carter, Lukas Foss and Thomas Ades. Mitchell is currently pursuing graduate studies at USC in their new arts leadership program. He completed his bachelor’s degree at UCLA and also holds graduate degrees in clarinet from Rice University and Indiana University.

The Kaleidoscope Chamber Orchestra is an innovative arts organization currently in its second season and has performed over 10 programs in more than 15 locations around Southern California including Zipper Hall, The Los Angeles Theater Center, First Presbyterian Church in Santa Monica and Glendale City Church.

Kaleidoscope is a conductor-less orchestra that is made up of outstanding musicians who perform in many of the most elite ensembles in Los Angeles including the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, the Pasadena Symphony and the Long Beach Symphony among others. One of the important aspects of the mission of Kaleidoscope is to perform free outreach concerts for underserved communities. The orchestra has performed numerous concerts at various homeless shelters, schools and hospitals around southern California.

The general admission price is $30. Senior citizen price is $20, college student price is $10 and admission is free for age 17 and under. Tickets can be purchased online or at the door.
