Alexis Gershwin, niece of the famous Gershwin brothers George and Ira, is the only singer in the family. She grew up with an appreciation for music and great source material. Last week, she put her talents on display at the Catalina Jazz Club in Hollywood where she sang her uncles’ hits, accompanied by a four-piece band and three backup singers. The night was nearly sold out and all in attendance seemed to enjoy being swept to “Long Ago (And Far Away),” the name of one of the tracks on her CD, “Gershwin Sings Gershwin.”
