Glendale Police Department Open House
The Glendale Police Dept. is having an open house in downtown Glendale at the police station on Saturday, June 4 and everyone is invited. Once a year the Glendale Police Dept. holds an open house to give the community an opportunity to see the station, learn about the department and see all the services that our police department provides. The open house will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 131 N. Isabel St. in Glendale. There is free parking available at the Civic Center Parking Garage, which is located at the corner of Glendale and Wilson avenues directly behind City Hall. The entrance is on Wilson Avenue.
There are a lot of activities planned for the open house as well as free food and entertainment. You will have a chance to meet the police officers and detectives, take a tour of the police facility, find out about GPD career opportunities, meet with the representatives of the YMCA/YWCA and the Pasadena Humane Society, learn about safety awareness programs and meet staff from Glendale Adventist Medical Hospital.
There will also be many activities for children including a bicycle safety rodeo – kids, bring your bike and helmet – a rock climbing wall, face painting and much more! The GPD police helicopter will be on display and there will be SWAT demonstrations and the chance to meet the K-9 team and see demonstrations. Firefighters from the Glendale Fire Department will also be there. It is going to be a fun day! So please take the time to stop by the open house and meet your Glendale Police Dept.
In 2015 Movoto, a licensed real estate/brokerage firm in over 30 states, named Glendale one of the 10 safest cities (pop. 100K-500K) in the United States. They based the ranking on FBI crime data from 2013. Glendale’s safety is a result of the city’s focus on education, community involvement and superior quality of life. Glendale consistently ranks in the FBI Crime Statistics’ top 10 safest cities in the country. GPD has exceptional police responsiveness and crime protection. The Glendale Police Dept. focuses on preventing crime before it happens by getting to know the citizens they protect and working with them to solve neighborhood problems and preventing crime. Crime prevention education and youth recreational programs get Glendale residents actively involved with law enforcement and give citizens a say in what is important to them and their community. The Glendale Police Dept. not only provides basic law enforcement safety to the City, it has a K9 Unit, a SWAT team, and an AB109 task force. It works in collaboration with the DEA and the Office of Homeland Security to arrest known convicts and the GPD houses a reginal DNA crime lab that services much of L.A. County. That really is amazing!
I had the opportunity to be a part of a 10-week Citizens Academy with the Glendale Police Dept. and it was a great experience. When I graduated the one thing that really stuck in my mind was how much the GPD does with so little. It is really amazing! Please take the time to stop by the open house! You won’t be disappointed.
