The Wheatland Fire that began burning on Monday at about 2:20 p.m is now 60% contained, according to Nathan Judy, spokesman for the Angeles National Forest, U.S. Forest Service. “Crews [continue] to work hand lines and patrol for hotspots,” Judy said.
The fire began in the southeast corner of the L.A. River Ranger District of the Angeles National Forest/San Gabriel Mountains National Monument.
“We have kept it at 184 acres,” Judy added.
The fire is now being handled by the U.S. Forest Service with L.A. County Fire and L.A. City Fire assisting. A total of 230 fire personel are responding to the fire.
Fix winged aircraft will be monitoring the area, at this point water dropping planes/helicopters are not being used but if it appears they are needed they will be called in, he added.
No structures were threatened and there were no evacuation.
“Full containment is expected at or before 8 p.m. tonight,” he said.
