Kyle Patterson of La Cañada Flintridge graduated from Champlain College with a degree in managing creative media on May 14. During his time at Champlain he was one of several senior students recognized by the College’s Robert P. Stiller School of Business for academic excellence. Students were honored at the Stiller School of Business Honoring Excellence Reception in April on Champlain College’s campus in Burlington, Vermont.
Patterson also participated in the 2016 Game Studio Senior Show at Champlain College. Game design, game art and animation, management of creative media, and game programming majors were all involved in creating nine different games that were presented to game industry recruiters from around the United States and Montreal. After the games were presented, recruiters had the chance to meet the seniors, try their games, and select candidates to interview the following day.
Typically, five to 10 seniors are hired in the game industry from this event.

Jessica Rust of Glendale and Ryan Longoria of La Crescenta were recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. They were initiated at California State University, Los Angeles.
Rust and Longoria are among approximately 30,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10% of seniors and 7.5% of juniors, having at least 72 semester hours, are eligible for membership. Graduate students in the top 10% of the number of candidates for graduate degrees may also qualify, as do faculty, professional staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction.

The Fort Lewis College School of Arts and Sciences held its annual Undergraduate Research & Creative Activities Symposium on April 21. Student participants were selected by their departments to represent the best undergraduate research and performances done at Fort Lewis College this year. Each department selects two students to give talks, and up to five groups of students to present posters or performances. Many of these students have also presented at professional conferences in their disciplines.
Pam Bogust of Sunland was part of a team that presented a project titled “Development of an SAE Baja Racecar,” supervised by faculty mentor Devin Leahy. Bogust’s major is engineering.

Vance Adams of La Crescenta has been awarded a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in marketing and management cum laude from McMurry University. Adams is one of 194 graduates who received degrees during the commencement in Hunt P.E. Center on Saturday, May 7. Adams was also named to the spring 2016 dean’s list. To be eligible for the dean’s list, a student must have maintained at least a 3.5 grade point average while taking 12 or more credit hours.

Lindsey Espe of La Cañada qualified for the spring 2016 dean’s list at Belmont University. Eligibility is based on a minimum course load of 12 hours and a quality grade point average of 3.5 with no grade below a C.

Sharon Kim of Glendale, majoring in media arts production, Lydia Lou of La Crescenta, majoring in marketing communications, and Emily Mccoy of La Crescenta, majoring in media arts production, have been named to Emerson College’s dean’s list for the spring 2016 semester. The requirement to make the dean’s list is a grade point average of 3.7 or higher.
On Sunday, May 8, Emerson College awarded approximately 970 undergraduate degrees and 350 graduate degrees during the college’s 136th commencement ceremonies.
Mollica of La Crescenta earned a BA in writing for film and TV, and Connor Smith of La Cañada earned a BS in marketing communications.

Beau Srinivasan of La Cañada Flintridge presented original work at Ohio Wesleyan University’s 2016 Student Symposium. The second-annual event, held April 20, allowed students to share the breadth and depth of their OWU academic work, hone their professional presentation skills, and foster communication about future research projects and artistic creations.
Srinivasan presented “Mars: Visualizing Ancient Hydrology with Software and 3D Models.” Srinivasan was mentored by Ohio Wesleyan faculty Nathan Amador.

Oregon State University held its 147th commencement on June 11 in Reser Stadium. OSU is one of the few large universities in the nation to hand out students’ actual diplomas during the commencement ceremony.

The University of Dubuque held its 164th commencement ceremonies on May 14 in the Chlapaty Recreation and Wellness Center as well as Heritage Center’s John and Alice Butler Hall on the UD campus. Degrees were conferred upon 413 undergraduate, graduate, and seminary students.

Gavin Traber, molecular and cellular biology major at Harding University from La Crescenta, is among more than 1,300 University students included on the dean’s list for grades achieved during the spring 2016 semester.
The dean’s list is published each semester by Dr. Larry Long, University provost, honoring those who have achieved high scholarship. To be eligible, a student must be carrying 12 or more hours with a 3.65 or higher grade-point average and no incompletes.

Catherine Adams of La Crescenta was named to Fort Lewis College’s dean’s list for the spring 2016 semester. Adams’ major is English.

Angela Gaignard of Sunland earned a spot on the spring 2016 president’s list at Southern Arkansas University.
Gaignard is a senior athletic training major.

St. Olaf College recently honored Caitlin and Margaret Connell for their induction into a national honor society. The girls are both residents of the Crescenta Valley, graduates of Crescenta Valley High School and daughters of Brian and Gail Connell.
Caitlin was inducted into Blue Key, a national honor society that recognizes students for balanced and all-around excellence in scholarship, leadership, and service. She is majoring in environmental studies.
Margaret was inducted into Pi Sigma Alpha, the national political science honor society. She is majoring in political science, computer science.
