Politically Unsavvy

I’m not a politico – there have been few candidates that I have endorsed or even supported over the years though I do make sure and cast my ballot. However, this year could be the closest I come to skipping the entire voting process.

In my opinion, the choices for President are downright dismal. Each one brings a cadre of concerns with no clear leader evident. And the race for U.S. Senate has over 30 candidates!

Local candidates for State Assembly – 43rd District have outdone themselves with mudslinging. I guess gone are the days when candidates are confident in what they are bringing to the table and don’t have to degrade each other to try and win votes.

I haven’t seen much trash tossed about in the race for the 5th District seat on the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. When I hear Kathryn Barger on TV, she talks about her experience, not about how lousy the other candidates are. She’s endorsed by Mike Antonovich, our current supervisor, and has worked closely with him over the years. I was also interested to learn of Mitch Englander’s background, especially his work as an LAPD reserve officer and as a L.A. City councilmember. Ara Najarian, who has been on the Glendale City Council for years, is also seeking the seat and knows about the needs of our unique part of the county.

To me, knowing about the foothills’ communities is essential in choosing our representatives. There are two candidates I’m aware of who are running for California State Senate and are familiar with the foothills. They are Anthony Portantino and Mike Antonovich.

Glendale residents will have the arduous task of deciding the fate of the city’s budget when choosing to vote yes or no on Measure N, the Users Utility Tax. There has been much debate regarding this measure and not all information put forth has been truthful.
