Work Planned by SCE
Southern California Edison will be performing maintenance on the electrical system in the area. In order to perform this work safely, SCE must temporarily turn off power. This outage will allow the modernization of the grid by making needed upgrades and repairs to increase reliability. Power outages may cause some inconvenience and therefore attempts are made for outages to be isolated down to the smallest area possible and the work completed safely and quickly.
Work will start on June 6 at 8 a.m. and end at 6 p.m. Three residential customers will be affected and no commercial customers or traffic control meters will be affected. The outage boundary is Padres Trail Place west of Forest Hill.
Additional work will begin on June 7 at 9 a.m. and end at 4 p.m. at Alta Canyada Road north of Del Oro Drive. Eight residential customers and two commercial customers will be affected.
Work also begins on June 7 at 9:30 a.m. at Hampstead Road south of Flintridge Avenue. Work should end at 4:30 p.m. and three residential customers will be affected.

Tick Talk at Deukmejian
On Saturday, June 4 there will be a tick talk at Deukmejian Wilderness Park. This is the first campfire of the year and the tick will be highlighted. Come at 6:30 p.m. for a nature-themed craft or show up at 7 p.m. for the start of the campfire.
There will be songs and skits and guests will learn about the tick, and finish with s’mores.

Note that the Riverwalk workday planned for Saturday, June 11 has been cancelled. It has been rescheduled for Saturday, July 16. However, at Brand Park on June 11 from 8 a.m. to noon there will be “Lend A Hand at Brand – Part 3.” The morning will be spent addressing trail issues on the Brand Lateral. Learn some basic trail maintenance techniques and lend a hand with new friends at Brand. No previous trail experience is required. Learn how to use trail building tools and pick up basic trail construction techniques while you help at the park. All participants must be at least 16 years old.

GCC Holding Spring Ceramics Sale
The Spring Ceramics Sale, a fundraising event for the Glendale Community College Ceramics Dept., will be held Saturday, June 4 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Student Center.
A large selection of handmade functional and decorative items made by art students in porcelain, stoneware, raku, majolica and earthenware will be available for purchase.
Proceeds from the sale go toward equipment and supplies for the department as well as bringing guest lecturers and workshops to the GCC Ceramics Studio.

Free Books and Authors Festival
The fifth annual LitFest Pasadena, a free books and authors festival, will be held on Saturday, June 4 in Pasadena’s Playhouse District.
Events begin at 10 a.m. at Vroman’s and continue throughout the day.

Glendale Beautiful Hosting Lunch
Glendale Beautiful invites all to the June luncheon on Tuesday, June 14 starting at 11:30 a.m. It will be held at the Casa Adobe de San Rafael in Glendale. Installation of 2016-17 officers and a presentation titled “How Glendale Saved California and Changed the Nation” will be given by Michael Crosby.
