The Glendale Police Dept. will be hosting an open house on June 4 at 131 N. Isabel St. in Glendale. The entire block of 100 N. Isabel Street will be closed between Wilson Avenue and Broadway for the festivities.

The event is free to the public and scheduled from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The day’s events will include tours of the police station, demonstrations and displays of police, fire and armored vehicles. A free lunch will be provided by the Glendale Police Officers’ Association.

Visitors will have the chance to meet Chief Robert Castro, command staff, detectives, police officers, cadets, Explorers, volunteers and members of the SWAT (Special Weapons Attack Team) team and try on their gear. The GPD K-9 Unit will be on hand as will police helicopter pilots. There will be plenty of photo opportunities with GPD patrol cars, armored and emergency rescue vehicles and motorcycles.

Visitors will get a chance to learn about the department’s bicycle unit and participate in the Bicycle Safety Rodeo course (participants need to bring their own bikes and helmet).

There will also be carotid artery and vein screenings provided by Glendale Adventist at the John Stauffer community mobile van and, for those interested in giving blood, the LifeStream Blood Mobile will be there as well.

Pasadena Humane Society will bring by some animals in need of adoption. Kids can enjoy a face-painting booth and can explore a crime scene, collect evidence and learn about DNA. They will also get to meet DreamWorks Kung Fu Panda character Po.

The event is free to the public.
