Glendale Beautiful Hosting Lunch
Glendale Beautiful invites all to the June luncheon on Tuesday, June 14 starting at 11:30 a.m. It will be held at the Casa Adobe de San Rafael in Glendale. Installation of 2016-17 officers and a presentation titled “How Glendale Saved California and Changed the Nation” will be given by Michael Crosby.

Restoration Day at Preserve
The next restoration day at the Rosemont Preserve is Saturday, June 11 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The poppies are still blooming and the deer are back! At the last tour two bucks followed the group around the trail and then calmly walked past before leaving. Images of two fawns bounding through the brush have also been taken. And yes, the bear is back – only this time he brought a friend! Tracks of two different bears were identified recently – and they looked fresh.

Come and help us work to keep the Preserve’s native plant habitat healthy – so there are plenty of options for the deer and other native species that call it home. Help is needed in watering the trees and removing invasive non-native plants throughout the Preserve.

The Preserve is located in La Crescenta at the north end of Rosemont Avenue, just past the chain link fence. Parking is available at Two Strike Park, 5107 Rosemont Ave.

Volunteers should wear sturdy shoes, comfortable work clothes and garden gloves (long pants and sleeves are recommended). Those who have any of the following tools, please consider bringing them: shovels, spades, loppers, hatchets, clippers. Other tools and equipment will be available. Rain cancels.

Glendale Community College Honored
The Campaign for College Opportunity with the California Business Roundtable honored Glendale Community College on June 2 for being a statewide leader in significantly increasing the number of students earning an Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT). There were 16 colleges and universities honored for excellence in transfer

California’s ADT program, established by the STAR Act in 2010 cuts through redundant requirements that created unnecessary hurdles for students seeking to transfer from a community college to a CSU campus. The majority of the 2.3 million students who enroll in California community colleges say they intend to transfer to a four-year university to receive a bachelor’s degree, but only 4% transfer annually.

Glendale Community College conferred 212 associate degrees for transfer in 2014-15. In 2013-14 Glendale conferred only 33 ADTs but within one year, grew ADT production by 179 degrees, an over 500% increase.
