The results of the June 7 election are in and the race is narrowed but far from over.

Hillary Clinton took the top Democratic slot for the Presidential ticket.

“[It is the] first time in our nation’s history that a woman will be a major party’s nomination,” Clinton said at a rally on Tuesday night.

Bernie Sanders, her closest competitor, received 41.96% of the vote leaving Clinton with 57.01%. During that rally Clinton reached out to Sanders supporters.

“Now I know it never feels good to put your heart into a cause or a candidate you believe in and you come up short. I know that feeling well,” she said referencing her loss to President Barack Obama in the primary eight years ago. “As we look ahead to the battle that awaits let’s remember all that unites us.”

Whether that call to unite will work or not will be played out over the next few months as the candidates face each other again at the convention, and then on to the November election.

For the Republicans it came down to one candidate still in the race – Donald Trump who won with 69.85% of the vote.

Other candidates who won the right to run for the office of President in their party were: American Independent Robert Ornelas with 20.75% of the vote, Green Party Jill Stein with 72.77%, Libertarian Gary Johnson with 53.27% and from the Peace and Freedom party Gloria La Riva with 54.85% of the vote.

The U.S. Senate race will set Kamala Harris (D), who got 44.32% of the vote, against Loretta Sanchez (D) with 24.09%.

And U.S. Representative incumbent Adam Schiff (D) was handed 70.50% of the vote. Lenore Solis (R) came away with 18.74% and will be on the ticket opposite Schiff.

Close to home were the most hotly contested races. For Assemblymember Mike Gatto’s (termed out) seat in the Assembly 43rd District, Laura Friedman (D), who received 31.91%, will face off against Ardy Kassakhian (D) who received 24.37%.

For the State Senate 25th District seat, two candidates well known to the Crescenta Valley are vying for the seat: Michael Antonovich, who won 39.19% of the vote, and Anthony Portantino who grabbed 27.76%.

The Los Angeles Board of Supervisors Fifth District will have Kathryn Barger, at 29.78% of Tuesday’s vote, face Darrell Park, who got 15.02%.

District Attorney is Jackie Lacey.

And Measure 50, Suspension of Legislators, was approved by 70.81% of the voters.
