Dr. Summer Drake joined the medical staff of Verdugo Hills Hospital (VHH) recently as an osteopathic physician specializing in family practice medicine. Dr. Drake trained under VHH’s best doctors during her medical school and residency years.
Dr. Drake’s specialty is primary care for men and women from adolescents to geriatrics. She is passionate about care for adolescents and young adults with special needs.
During her undergraduate years, Dr. Drake’s study of preventive health and community health education led her to become interested in osteopathy. She was intrigued to learn about the osteopathic philosophy and the emphasis it places on the importance of finding health in a person, not just disease.
Dr. Drake’s practice is currently very traditional but she is hoping to begin offering OMT (Osteopathic Manipulative Treatments) soon. This type of treatment would benefit many of her patients, especially those that cannot tolerate or would rather not take certain medications.
When she is not practicing medicine, Dr. Drake enjoys spending time with her husband and two children. As a physician, she believes in the saying “practice what you preach” and makes exercise a priority enjoying distance running the most.
