LCPC Concert to Wave the Flag

Patriotic music in many forms, including excerpts from the Tony-winning 1969 musical “1776,” will be presented by the La Cañada Presbyterian Church Chancel Choir and Orchestra in a free concert, “Americana 2016,” on Saturday, July 2 at 7:30 p.m.

The concert will open with John Williams’ “Liberty Fanfare,” written for the centennial celebration of the Statue of Liberty in 1986, plus a tribute to the Liberty Bell of 1776 with John Philip Sousa’s “Liberty Bell March.”

Other patriotic favorites will include “My Country ’Tis of Thee,” “The Battle Hymn of the Republic,” “God Bless America,” a medley of George M. Cohan songs and Sousa’s ever-popular “The Stars and Stripes Forever.”

“The concert will celebrate the founding of our country and will also be a salute to our military veterans,” said Jack Lantz, LCPC’s director of music and worship arts, who will conduct the choir and orchestra. “It will celebrate our American heritage, history and culture and we wave our flag in three cheers for the red, white and blue.”

Tyler Wright, president and CEO of the Crescenta-Cañada Family YMCA, will serve as emcee, providing inspirational commentary, patriotic poems and his customary humor. He will also join with soprano Rebecca Sjowall in presenting a scene from the “1776” musical.

The multimedia show will be accompanied by videos and photos that reflect the nation’s history and breathtaking scenery.
