Fireworks are Illegal in Glendale
Glendale Fire Dept. officials remind the public that fireworks are illegal in Glendale. They encourage visiting one of the many professional fireworks shows that will be hosted in the area and in neighboring cities including at Crescenta Valley High School (access at 4400 Ramsdell Ave. in La Crescenta), Starlight Bowl located at 1249 Lockhead View Dr. in Burbank and the Rose Bowl at 1001 Rose Bowl Dr.

Since it is anticipated to be hot remember to celebrate responsibly and always designate a driver; if outdoors, use sunscreen, wear a brimmed hat and seek shade if needed; stay hydrated, drink water or other nutritious fluids before thirsty; limit alcohol and sugary drinks; many areas, including outdoors, are “No Smoking” zones and for those who do smoke, always safely dispose of used cigarettes, cigars or other devices; always have someone tending the barbecue and watching the swimming pool when in use; keep an eye on pets as  the noise from fireworks can scare pets.

New Animal Tracking Tour
Rosemont Preserve is having another animal tracking tour on Sunday, July 3 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. with wildlife photographer and expert tracker Johanna Turner. Learn what to look for when taking a stroll in the wild and the differences between animal tracks. Turner helps the National Park Service track and document mountain lions in the Verdugo Mountains. She and Denis Callet have installed cameras on several AFC properties to document wildlife passage through these natural open spaces.

There has been a lot of wildlife activity at the Preserve lately. Turner recently identified three different sets of bear tracks.

Because of the intimate nature of this tour – looking for tracks along the trail – the tour will be limited to 15. Those who would like to attend can RSVP to RosemontFriends@gmail.com. The first 15 to respond will be guaranteed a spot; a waiting list will be created in case of cancellations.

The Preserve is located at the north end of Rosemont Avenue, just past the chain link fence. As street parking is limited, please park at Two Strike Park, 5107 Rosemont Ave. in La Crescenta. Please bring water, a hat and wear sturdy shoes to walk the trail.

This event is free to the public and suitable for all ages and RSVP is required for this event. Rain cancels event. Sorry, no pets please.

Sediment Removal Meetings Planned
Information meetings are scheduled regarding the Devil’s Gate Reservoir Sediment Removal and Management Project. L.A. County Public Works has been actively planning for a more sustainable Devil’s Gate Reservoir. To share these plans with the community, there will be a series of informational meetings held that are designed to provide details on the sediment removal activities to restore and maintain flood control capacity and the habitat enhancement program that will create and preserve native habitat within and around the reservoir.

The meetings will be held on Saturday, July 16 at 2 p.m. at Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge, Main Room, 4469 Chevy Chase Drive in La Cañada Flintridge; on Wednesday, July 13 at 6:30 p.m. at Jackson Elementary School Auditorium at 593 W. Woodbury Road in Altadena; on Thursday, July 14 at 6:30 p.m. at Rose Bowl Stadium, Visitors’ Locker Room, 1001 Rose Bowl Drive in Pasadena.

Sacramento Comes Through with Museum Funding
The Armenian American Museum Governing Board commended Gov. Jerry Brown for including $1 million earmarked for the Museum in the 2016-17 California state budget.

Although the funding included in the compromised budget between the legislature and the governor is lower than the amount approved by the State Assembly, the Armenian American Museum’s Executive Committee Chair Berdj Karapetian described it as “a sizeable commitment by the State to make the Armenian American Museum a reality.”

The Armenian American Museum is working closely with the City of Glendale to complete the due diligence requirements and feasibility studies for building the Museum in the Arts and Entertainment District of the City.
PRELIMINARY HEARING FOR MURDER SUSPECT
David Bushman, 44, was in court on Wednesday in Pasadena for a preliminary hearing charged in the death of Arthur
Palmer, 73, who was murdered at his home in the 3000 block of Frances Avenue on July 24, 2015.

His body was found in the garage; the cause of death was multiple blunt force traumatic injuries, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

An investigation revealed the alleged motive for the murder was burglary and the victim, according to Det. Dawn Retzlaff, L.A. Sheriff’s Dept. Homicide Unit, knew the suspect.

County Opposes High-speed Rail Alignment
The L.A. County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a joint motion by Supervisors Michael D. Antonovich and Sheila Kuehl to send a five-signature letter to the California High Speed Rail Authority Board and the County’s elected state officials opposing the Refined E-2 High Speed Rail alignment, as currently proposed due to serious impacts to homes, quality of life and sensitive environmental areas in local communities including Shadow Hills, Lakeview Terrace, Sunland-Tujunga, Kagel Canyon and Acton, and to the Big Tujunga Wash.

The letter will detail efforts to date by Supervisors Antonovich and Kuehl and call upon the Authority to expedite scientific studies related to the high-speed rail project. The motion also directs county departments to assess project impacts on their operations.
