Aug. 15, 1935 – May 6, 2016

Donald Earl Myers passed away on May 6 at the age of 80 after a difficult four-month battle with sepsis. Donald (known by friends and family as Don) is predeceased by his parents, Harry and Mary Evelyn Myers. Don is lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his wife of 61 years, Nadia; daughters Linda, Sandra, and Kristina; 10 grandchildren Nikki (Doug), Alex, Tom, Emily, Cody, Dylan, Logan, Toni, and Zachary; his two great-granddaughters Payton and Rilyn.

Don was a lifetime resident of Glendale. He was born in Glendale on Aug. 15, 1935. He attended John Muir Elementary, Wilson Junior High, Glendale High School, and Glendale College. He married his high school sweetheart, Nadia Petrushoff, on March 26, 1955. When Don was a senior in high school he joined the Navy Reserve and received an honorable discharge on Jan. 20, 1961.

Don’s first job was selling newspapers on the corner of Colorado and Adams. As an adult he held several part-time jobs before he began his 42-year career with the City of Los Angeles. He started at Los Angeles Water and Power, then as a draftsman in the street lighting department, and then finally as a senior inspector for the City. Don retired from the City of Los Angeles in 1997.

Don enjoyed being a handyman; he could fix anything. On any project he had, he paid attention to detail and took pride in it, no matter what it was. He liked to draw cartoons, collect coins and model trains and cars, and read about the history of his community. He loved telling stories. Don is remembered by family and friends as the ultimate jokester. He had a wonderful sense of humor and could make anyone laugh.

He was a kind-hearted loving man who never met anyone he didn’t like. One of his favorite memories of his grandchildren was of their grandfather taking them camping at the beach in the summer. He was always ready and willing to help them with their projects during the school year. He never failed to be there for his family and never asked for anything in return.

Private services were held on Father’s Day, June 19.

Don was one-of-a-kind to everyone who knew him. He leaves behind a big family full of love and beautiful memories of him. Dad/Grampa, your warm loving soul will be greatly missed. We hope you are with the angels creating so much laughter and joy in the heavens.
