Experimental Forest Work Planned
Join dedicated volunteers at the Experimental Forest on Saturday, July 30 from 9 a.m. until noon. Meet at La Tuna Canyon/Hostetter Fire Road intersection (where La Tuna Canyon crosses the 210 Freeway). Note that the access gate will close at 9:15 a.m., so please be prompt.
Volunteers will drive up the Hostetter Fire Road in the Verdugo Mountains (about a 25-minute drive) to reach the destination. Once there volunteers will water the trees that were planted in the past few years and remove invasive weeds.
Snacks and drinks will be provided. Wear sturdy shoes and protective clothing and bring water, sunscreen, gloves and a hat.

CVWD Board Meeting
The scheduled meeting for the board of directors of the Crescenta Valley Water District for August will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 9 to allow for the District’s participation in National Night Out on Aug. 2. Board meetings are held at the CVWD administrative office at 2700 Foothill Blvd. in La Crescenta. Regularly scheduled board meetings are at 7 p.m. unless otherwise noted.
The public is encouraged to attend.
Eyeglass Drop-off Points
The Lions Club reminds the community that eyeglasses that are no longer needed can be “recycled” at nearby locations including the La Crescenta (2809 Foothill Blvd.) and Montrose (2465 Honolulu Ave.) libraries and Jack’s Optical (2904 Honolulu Ave. across from Moss).
Rose Court Apps Being Accepted
Applications for the 2017 Tournament of Roses Royal Court will be available Aug. 1 via the Tournament of Roses website. Young women from the Pasadena area who meet the eligibility requirements are encouraged to apply and participate in one of the initial interview sessions on Sept. 10 and Sept. 12 at Tournament House.
To be eligible, an individual must be an unmarried female resident of the Pasadena Area Community College District; be a senior in high school or enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited school or college in the Pasadena Area Community College District; possess at least a 2.0 (“C”) cumulative, non-weighted grade point average; be at least 17 years of age by Dec. 31, 2016, and not more than 21 years of age before Jan. 5, 2017 with no children; complete an official online application and participate in one of the initial interview sessions.

CVCA Meeting Planned
The next Crescenta Valley Community Association meeting will be July 28 starting at 7 p.m. in the community room at the La Crescenta Library, 2809 Foothill Blvd. Park in the upper lot accessed from La Crescenta Ave. Updates on local issues will be presented. Attendance to meetings are free and open to the public.
Bear Aware Meeting
A bear aware meeting is being held on Monday, Aug. 8 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Sadler Hall/St. Luke’s of the Mountains.

Breakfast to Honor Local Law Enforcement
On Saturday morning, Aug. 13 American Legion Post 288 and VFW Post 1614 are hosting a Crescenta Valley Community Law Enforcement Appreciation Breakfast in the Legion Memorial Hall.
There will be breakfast served to county sheriff’s deputies, CHP officers and Glendale PD officers from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. They will be presented an American Legion thank you coin.
Help is needed in identifying and inviting members of the law enforcement persons in the community. RSVP is needed to ensure there is plenty of food. Contact Lynn McGinnis at (818) 242-3487 for more information or to RSVP.
