Verdugo Hills Women’s Chorus (VHWC) had a very successful “Get to Know Us” session at its Summer Fun Rehearsal on Aug. 1. Twelve guests attended and sang with members of VHWC. It is hoped that some will join the chorus and help spread happiness through their love of singing.
The group, organized over 60 years ago as an outgrowth of PTA Mothersingers, adheres to the goal of California Women’s Chorus, Inc. (CWC). CWC goals for its 11 member choruses throughout California are to promote choral singing among women and to provide funds for scholarships for young and talented students of vocal music.
The first rehearsal of the 2016-17 season will be held in the choir room of La Crescenta Presbyterian Church (not affiliated with the chorus) at 2902 Montrose Ave. and will begin at 9 a.m. with time to greet fellow singers after the summer hiatus. A short meeting will be conducted by President Suzy Duff and then the music starts. This will be the first of many Monday morning rehearsals conducted by Sharon Schlarb, director.
Christmas music will be on the agenda as the group will perform programs in November and December for nine different venues in the Verdugo Hills, Pasadena and Glendale areas. For many, this is a way to see a Christmas concert without having to leave their home. The reward for the singer is unmeasurable.
Membership is open to any woman who has a love of music and is interested in bringing that joy to others through song. Rehearsals are held Monday mornings 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and VHWC members would welcome guests to attend a rehearsal to “check us out.” No auditions are required.
