Rosemont Preserve Restoration Day
The community is invited to the Rosemont Preserve Restoration Day on Saturday, Sept. 10 from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. to help protect the natural habitat at Rosemont Preserve. Volunteers will be preparing to plant more trees and some new natives on the south slope and tending to native plants, removing invasive plants and doing some light trail maintenance.
Wear sturdy shoes, comfortable clothes and garden gloves (long pants and sleeves are recommended). Tools will be available.
The Preserve is located at the north end of Rosemont Avenue, just past the chain link fence. As street parking is limited, please park at Two Strike Park, 5107 Rosemont Ave.
This event is free to the public and suitable for all ages and no reservations required. Rain cancels event. Sorry, no pets please.

Drought-Tolerant Landscape & Rain Barrel Event
Glendale Water & Power invites the community to a special drought-tolerant landscape & rain barrel event on Sunday, Sept. 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Descanso Gardens.
This event is co-hosted by Glendale Water & Power, the City of South Pasadena, Pasadena Water & Power, Burbank Water & Power, Crescenta Valley Water District, and The Foothill Municipal Water District. The event includes classes on rain barrels and proper rain barrel maintenance to prevent mosquito-borne viruses, water-wise landscapes and a composting demo. Many other vendors will be available to answer questions on water-wise landscaping and CA Friendly Plants.
Rain barrels can be preordered for $85 ($10 after the MWD rebate!) by Sept. 15 at RainBarrelsIntl.com and picked up at the event. Once on the website click on the EVENTS tab and select Descanso Gardens.
Rain barrel rebates start at $75 (two maximum) at SoCalWaterSmart.com. Rebates drop to $35 on Jan. 1.
Residents must RSVP for this event. Respondents will receive free entry to Descanso Gardens. Seating for the classes is limited and will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. Purchasing a rain barrel does not provide registration for the free classes offered at Descanso Gardens. RSVP must be given for the event to attend with or without a rain barrel purchase.
New Student Ex Officio Members Sought for CSW
The City of Glendale Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is seeking two new student ex officio members to serve on the CSW for one year (Nov. 2016 – Oct. 2017). The CSW is composed of seven volunteer members; five are appointed by the Glendale City Council and two student ex officio members who are appointed by the current commissioners.
The Commission is looking for students who are high school juniors or above attending an institution of higher learning and/or live in Glendale, are dedicated to the Glendale community, are passionate about helping people and are interested in women’s issues.
The Commission meets on the second Monday of each quarter at 5:30 p.m. (February, May, August, November) at Glendale City Hall.

Dinner and Meeting Held by FoR
The Friends of Rockhaven is hosting a meeting of the members and a soiree opened to the public on Saturday, Sept. 24 from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the La Crescenta Woman’s Club. The soiree will include dinner and a silent auction.
Dinner is at 5:30 p.m. At 7 p.m. the doors will be open to the community. A brief meeting will be held then the rest of the evening can be spent enjoying music abd drinks, and bidding on art, wine, passes to fun places, items from supporters local and far.
No dinner tickets will be sold at the door so RSVPs are needed before Sept. 19. Dinner tickets are $50 per person. Checks can be mailed to Friends of Rockhaven, P.O. Box 573, Verdugo City, CA 91046 or purchased at http://tinyurl.com/hueghve.
Work Planned by SCE
Southern California Edison will be performing maintenance on the electrical system in the area. In order to perform this work safely, SCE must temporarily turn off power. This outage will allow the modernization of the grid by making needed upgrades and repairs to increase reliability. Power outages may cause some inconvenience and therefore attempts are made for outages to be isolated down to the smallest area possible and the work completed safely and quickly.
The work will start on Sept. 13 at 9:30 a.m. and end at 3:30 p.m. Three residential customers will be affected and no commercial customers or Traffic Control meters will be affected.
The outage boundary is Olive Lane, South Side 640’ East of Alta Canyada Road.

CVCOC Plans Annual 5K
Applications are now being accepted for the Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce annual 5K run held at Two Strike Park on Saturday, Oct. 15. There are seven categories of competition; all ages are welcome. This is a fun family event.
Bring your best Halloween attire that is suitable for the event.
Proceeds benefit the students of Crescenta Valley. Entry fee is $25 (pre-pay by Oct. 8 to guarantee an event T-shirt); $35 day of event. Kids Pumpkin Fun Run is free to all participants, but to guarantee an event T-shirt ($10) participants must preregister by Oct. 8.
