Answering the Question, ‘What’s New?’

Whenever I run into residents in and around La Crescenta, they ask me, “What’s new?” There is always a long list of happenings in our area. So I remind folks that one of the best ways to stay informed is to come to our monthly CV Town Council meetings. Our September meeting will be held on Thursday, Sept. 15. Aside from our usual community updates and reports, here are some of the topics we will be discussing:

• The Los Angeles County Parks Dept. will be on hand to present revised plans on the proposed walking trails at Two Strike Park.

• The L.A. Dept. of Public Works will also be at the September meeting to give the community a presentation on the results of its second speed study on Briggs Avenue (between Foothill Boulevard and Montrose Avenue). This is a follow-up presentation from its previous appearance in February regarding the proposed speed limit increase on that portion of Briggs.

• Our third presentation of the evening will come from Roger Young of the CV Fire Safe Council. He will update the crowd about the work that the L.A. County Fire Dept. and the California Conservation Corps have accomplished in the hills above Briggs Terrace. These groups have worked diligently to mitigate the fire danger from the dry vegetation on the hillside.

The CV Town Council has been involved with GUSD’s efforts to keep our school district intact and as is. An effort has been underway for the past few years by La Cañada residents who want the western section of La Cañada (the Sagebrush territory) to join the La Cañada Unified School District. Members of the CVTC attended a hearing on the subject yesterday at the Los Angeles County education offices in Downey. We will keep the community abreast of this ongoing matter.

I would also like to remind everyone that the Town Council’s Annual Pancake Breakfast will be held on Saturday, Sept. 17 from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the CVHS quad.  This fundraiser not only benefits the CVTC scholarship fund, but proceeds go directly to a number of area programs, CVHS groups and sports teams.
