Chamber Offers Breath of Fresh Air
Autumn seems to be settling in nicely. There’s a snap in the air (at least there is today as I write this). The days of 100-degree heat are hopefully over, so it’s time to start thinking about getting back outside and breathing some fresh air. We’ve got a couple of opportunities coming up for you to do just that.
The Chamber’s annual 5K run, normally called Running the Foothills, has got a little twist this year. Since it’s a couple of weeks before Oct. 31, we’re calling it the Halloween Fun Run and Kids Pumpkin Run. Running (or walking) in costume is highly encouraged. Get a little more mileage out of your Halloween costume while you get in shape for trick-or-treating!
We’re all very excited about this year’s event. We want this to be a healthy celebration for families and children all over the Crescenta Valley. The 5K is a timed event with medals for first and second place in seven different age categories. But many participants jog or walk the picturesque route along Orange Avenue just for the fun of it. Plus $5 of every entry goes to the school or educational group of the participant’s choice! The Kids Pumpkin Fun Run is a short one- mile jaunt around the perimeter of Two Strike Park led by fitness instructors from the YMCA. The Y will also have a kids’ activity zone for fun before and after the race. The Pumpkin Run is free (or $10 for a T-shirt); however, no donations will be passed to schools for those entrants.
Local schools will be vying for the coveted Chamber Cup and $100 bonus prize! The school with the highest percentage of participants will be the proud owner of the Cup and prize money. Last year Lincoln Elementary was presented with the Chamber Cup and prize money at its morning flag ceremony. Wouldn’t you like to see your school win? Or it can be a team, club or educational organization. Come on, Clark Robotics! I’m looking at you, Rosemont Builders’ Club! Bring it on, Mountain Avenue PTA! Put on your uniforms and run, CV Pep Squad! Even if you don’t win the prize money, every entrant brings in $5 for your team. No more selling wrapping paper or cookie dough. This is the fastest, easiest, most fun way to raise money for your cause.
The second way you can get outside, get some fresh air and help your community this fall is to volunteer for the 21st Annual Foothill Community Clean Up Day. The Chamber works in conjunction with Glendale Clean and Beautiful to help spruce up Foothill Boulevard on Saturday, Oct. 22 from 9 a.m. to noon. We encourage students, families, service organizations, businesses and other groups to make a difference on national “Make A Difference Day.”
Complimentary breakfast and lunch will be provided. Volunteers must pre-register. Call the Chamber office or visit our website for more information on signing up.
Happy Fall!
