Valley View Elementary School was on the route of the Patriot’s Day motorcade, which took place on Friday. The motorcade route passed in front of the school on Maryland Avenue with the participants riding in classic cars, fire engines, police cars and motorcycles waving to the hundreds of students and teachers who had gathered on the sidewalk with flags and applause to cheer them on.

VV Principal Dr. Reynolds led the students as they chanted “U.S.A.” Everyone wore red, white, and blue to honor those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001. The commemoration continued at night at 6 p.m. at Bob Smith Toyota, where Valley View student Dina Nahban sang patriotic songs dedicated to the victims of 9/11. A moment of silence was followed by stories that celebrated the relatives and victims of that day.

On Monday, Fremont Elementary School had an assembly at 8:30 a.m. to honor 9/11. Girl Scout troops for the school assisted with the flag ceremony announcements along with one of the school’s Cub Scout troops.
