44th ANNUAL NATIONAL JURIED ART EXHIBITION OF WORKS ON PAPER
The Brand Associates is sponsoring its 44th Brand National Exhibition of Works on Paper, juried by prominent Los Angeles based multi-media artist Laddie John Dill.
The public opening reception and awards ceremony is Saturday, Sept. 24 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Brand Galleries. The exhibition will be on view through Oct. 28. All artworks are for sale with 25% of proceeds benefitting the many free cultural programs at the Brand Library, which are supported by the Brand Associates.

LA OPERA TALKS AT BRAND LIBRARY & ART CENTER

CASINO TURNAROUND FUNDRAISER
The Women’s Council at VHH is hosting their popular Casino Turnaround on Sunday, Sept. 25. This will be a fun-filled, friend-filled and fund-raising day spent at Harrah’s Resort in Southern California. There will be bus transportation provided with pick-up at 7 a.m. from the USC-VHH Mail Lobby. 18TH ANNUAL WIGGLE WAGGLE WALK
All are invited to put on their walking shoes on and grab a leash; it’s Wiggle Waggle Walk time! Animal lovers and their canine friends are invited to the Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA’s 18th Annual Wiggle Waggle Walk – a community fundraiser for animals – at Brookside Park adjacent to the Rose Bowl. The Walk will start at 8 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 25.
Walkers can create a team, join an existing team, or register as an individual on the new Wiggle Waggle Walk website. Event registration is $25 per person, and includes an event T-shirt, bib, and bandana for their dog.
Participants can build a personal fundraising page and invite family, friends and co-workers to join the fun. The more money a walker raises, the more prizes they earn.
Early bird registration is open until Sept. 12 and includes a discounted registration fee and an opportunity to pick up the T-shirt and prizes before the Walk.

MUSIC APPRECIATION CLASS AT GCC
Dr. Ted Stern, professor of music at Glendale Community College, is conducting off-campus music appreciation classes for adults in the community. This ongoing series is for musicians and non-musicians alike. This semester will cover the topic “A New Appreciation of Music: Surprises from the Internet (beginning with the 18th Century – the world of Bach and Handel).”

ANNUAL WINE & GOURMET FOOD TASTING

AUTHORS COMING TO FLINTRIDGE BOOKSTORE
On Thursday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m., Flintridge Bookstore & Coffeehouse hosts a booksigning for Peter Bachmann, headmaster of Flintridge Preparatory School, and author of “Advancing Confidently.”
In his 25th year as headmaster, Bachmann began to notice a trend in students graduating from high school: fear. Bachmann’s book presents a series of interviews with former teachers, mentors and students who have found success through unlikely, often turbulent pathways. S-T CLEAN UP CONTEST
The Sunland-Tujunga Neighborhood Council Beautification Committee is taking part in the Clean Streets Challenge throughout the City of Los Angeles. The council is hosting a community clean up day on Saturday, Oct 8 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Participants of the challenge are vying for grant funds designated for community improvements in the Sunland-Tujunga area.

ART, ARTISTS AND WINE IN IDYLLWILD
On Saturday, Oct. 8 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. the Art Alliance of Idyllwild and the Associates of Idyllwild Arts Foundation, both 501(c)(3) organizations, are hosting the Annual Art Walk & Wine Tasting. The event draws over two thousand visitors annually for an afternoon of great wine and art. Art lovers can visit the Art Walk that begins at 10 a.m. It is free to the public and maps will be available at 54295 N. Circle Drive.
Art of Wine begins in the afternoon from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. when 18 Southern California wineries from Temecula, Warner Springs, Escondido, Fallbrook, Julian and Idyllwild share a selection of great wines at 13 locations around town. The fall weather makes walking from location to location a fun experience, but shuttles will also be available to transport guests between venues.
There will also be a limited number of tickets available to a Friday night VIP event when wine enthusiasts can mingle with the wineries.
Tickets for the wine tasting are $35 each with a special price of $30 each for groups of 10 or more before Sept. 24. Wine tasting tickets can be purchased in advance on the Art Alliance website (www.artinidyllwil.org) or, if not sold out, on site the day of the event. Included in the package are the wine tastings, a keepsake wine glass designed by a local artist, live music and a wide selection of cheeses and crackers.

HEART WALK COMING TO ROSE BOWL
The American Heart Association invites the community to join its annual heart walk at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena on Oct. 8 at 8 a.m.

NEWS FROM FRIENDS OF THE SUNLAND-TUJUNGA BRANCH LIBRARY
The bookstore of the Friends of the Sunland-Tujunga branch of the library, which is located inside the library, is filled with used books on almost every subject. There are books on psychology, religion, self-help, cooking, classics and many more subjects. It is open during library hours (except evenings). Prices range from 10 cents to a few dollars. All books are donated.
All monies collected from the sale of these books support the Sunland-Tujunga Branch Library in purchasing new books, DVDs and equipment. The Friends also supports programs for children and young adults as well as adults. It is a 501(c)(3) organization, so donations are tax deductible. BREASTFEEDING SUPPORT GROUP AT Y
The Crescenta-Cañada Family YMCA, in partnership with the La Leche League, is hosting a monthly lactation and infant development support group to help support new mothers. This monthly group meets on the third Friday of each month from noon-1 p.m.  This group is free and open to the community and will answer all breastfeeding-related questions that new mothers may have.
The Y is also offering a Mindful Parenting Course designed to help parents connect to their children and raise them to thrive. This course is adapted from the work of Dan Siegal, M.D and will focus on reducing daily stress while connecting with your child. The classes meet weekly on Tuesdays. The course is open to all and there is a fee to attend.
