Thanks to a big night from Joseph Suh, and his offensive line, the Falcon football team defeated the Muir mustangs 33-0 on Oct. 7 at Muir High School. Suh rushed for 180 yards on 20 carries, igniting Crescenta Valley and keeping the team in first place in the Pacific League.

Overall, the rushing game accounted for 289 yards, and three of the four touchdowns CV scored came on the ground.

The Falcons have now beaten Muir three seasons in a row, something to be proud of considering how dominant the Mustangs have been in league for years. The shutout was the fourth straight win for the Falcons (5-1 overall, 3-0 in league) and another suffocating display of their defensive prowess. The team has allowed 48 points overall, and just seven points through three league games.

Nobel Leduc and Brian Erickson are third and fourth in league in tackles, with 60 and 52, respectively. Tyler LoBianco is second in league with two interceptions, and Tyler Hill is tied for the league lead in sacks with five.

Leduc had 12 tackles against Muir, and the defense recorded three interceptions.

Quarterback Cole Doyle continues to follow the game plan with precision. He was seven of 12 with 61 yards and a touchdown. Not eye-popping statistics by any means, but efficient enough to control the game and let Suh and the defense take over. On the season, Doyle has 10 touchdowns to two interceptions, and is completing 64% of his passes.

CV is ranked eighth in the CIF Southern Section Division VI. The Falcons are tied with Burroughs and Arcadia, which are also 3-0. The Falcons host Pasadena (1-5, 1-2) Friday at Moyse Field at Glendale High at 7 p.m.

After Pasadena, there are three games left in the regular season: home to Burroughs on Oct. 21, and on the road at Burbank (Oct. 28) and Arcadia (Nov. 4). All times are at 7 p.m.

After a 7-3 season and a first-round playoff exit in 2015, the Falcons look poised to surpass last year’s success and contend for a CIF title, something they captured in 2014 with an undefeated season.

The St. Francis football team is also enjoying a stellar year so far. The Golden Knights are 6-0 overall and 1-0 in the Angelus League after recoding a 38-28 win over La Salle on Oct. 7. The team is scheduled to play host to Salesian on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. After next week, the Knights play out the regular season with three straight road games, against Harvard-Westlake, Cathedral and St. Paul.

Volleyball Update

The Crescenta Valley girls’ volleyball team swept the Glendale schools this past week and is now 8-2 in league and on track for a playoff spot. The girls easily took care of Hoover in three sets (25-6, 25-11, 25-15) on Oct. 6 and then on Tuesday dispatched Glendale in three sets that were a little more difficult (25-16-, 25-21, 27-25).

CV, which plays CIF Southern Section Division IV, is 11-8 overall, and is in second place in league behind Arcadia, which is 10-0. Crescenta Valley already lost to Arcadia, and plays them one more time at the end of the season on Oct. 25. The Falcons would need a loss from the Apaches before that date to at least play for a tie for the league championship.

CV is at Pasadena today at 3:30 p.m. They host Burroughs on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
