Street Light Petitions
Recently, a few street light petitions were filed with the County of Los Angeles to have streetlights installed within La Crescenta. Public Works has attended several CV Town Council meetings to explain the County process of streetlight installation. Residents expressed concerns about the process; specifically that only property owners who will be paying for the streetlights get to vote on the petition. For instance, if you live across the street from a proposed streetlight location, your vote will not count. As a result, the CVTC has asked Supervisor Antonovich for a six-month moratorium on all new streetlight petitions so we can investigate the issue and survey the community. The Land Use Committee will be looking into this issue. More information should be available in the beginning of 2017.
Speed Studies on Briggs Avenue
L.A. County Dept. of Public Works conducted two more speed studies on Briggs Avenue south of Prospect Avenue. The results remain the same: 85th percentile speed is 38 mph. It is recommended that the posted speed limit signs be changed from 30 mph to 35 mph. A presentation regarding this suggested change was made at the September town council meeting. The CVTC and residents are not in favor of changing the signage at this time. It was suggested that there could be other solutions. County will be investigating the possibility of alternate signage including: driver feedback signs on Briggs Avenue north/south of Foothill Boulevard, “Watch Downhill Speed” signs on Briggs Avenue, and a “25 mph When Children Are Present” signs on Briggs Avenue. The investigation will take approximately eight weeks. CVTC will update the community as information becomes available.
Fraudulent Phone Calls
Residents are receiving phone calls from scammers claiming to be with the sheriff’s department. The caller claims he has a warrant for arrest and that the resident needs to pay money so s/he isn’t arrested. In fact, the Sheriff’s Dept. will not collect money from anyone. It certainly will not call your home phone. Please be aware and do not give out personal information over the phone.
Upcoming Sagebrush Hearings
Glendale Unified School District is asking parents, residents and community members to attend the two upcoming Sagebrush public hearings. The Sagebrush territory transfer has the potential to affect all residents within GUSD and La Crescenta, not just parents and students. The transfer could affect your property values and tax dollars. Let your voice be heard.

Oct. 26 at 6 p.m. at La Cañada Unified School District and Nov. 2 at 6:30 p.m. at Crescenta Valley High School.

Please join us for our monthly town council meeting on Thursday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. at La Crescenta Library. Candidate Darrell Park will be speaking to the community about his bid for L.A. County Board of Supervisors, 5th District. Darrell Park and Kathryn Barger (who attended the May meeting) are both competing for Supervisor Michael Antonovich’s seat. The election will take place on Nov. 8.
