Last year, four gradate students from the University of Southern California (USC) Sol Price School of Public Policy presented their graduate capstone project for their Masters of Public Administration program to the City’s Parks and Recreation Commission. The students made recommendations for improvement to the City of La Cañada Flintridge’s parks reservation process and online accessibility of information.
With the help of Senior Management Analyst Arabo Parseghian, many of their recommendations are coming to fruition. Residents interested in reserving park space can now do so on the City’s website www.lcf.ca.gov/parks through an online reservation form. There is also a Frequently Asked Questions section and, coming soon, the City will launch a Park Availability Calendar so interested applicants can determine availability without calling city hall.
“The Commission was very impressed by the work of the USC graduate students, they presented us tangible solutions that would streamline our recreational facility reservation process and could be instantly implemented using the City’s existing technology infrastructure. Parks and Recreation,” said Commissioner Jim Kambe. “We are grateful to the students for their work and wish them well.”
The City has a long-standing relationship with USC and their masters program in public administration. Many current and former City employees matriculated through the program and the City provides opportunities to current students through internships.
