Local Elections 2016
It is less than two weeks from the United States Presidential Election and the California State General Election. On Nov. 8 here in Montrose/Glendale we will not only be voting for the President, we will also be voting for our state senator District 25, state assembly member District 43 and representative for L.A. County Board of Supervisors 5th District. While these positions can impact business in the state these are the local officials who will be representing our area. Please be sure to educate yourself about each of these candidates so you can make an informed decision.
You may be more familiar with some of the candidates who are running because they have represented our area in other capacities for the past several years and are familiar with local issues. Anthony Portantino and Michael Antonovich are running for the District 25 state senate seat, Laura Friedman and Ardy Kassakhian are running for the position of assembly member District 43, and Kathryn Barger and Darrell Park are running for L.A. County Supervisor District 5. Here are the campaign websites for all the candidates. Log on to find out more about each, where they stand on the issues, special endorsements they have received and their previous civil service experience: anthonyportantino.com, antonovichforsenate.com, votelaurafriedman.com, ardyforassembly.com, kathrynbarger.com and electdarrellpark.com.
In addition to the elected officials, we will be voting on 17 ballot measures. Make sure you are familiar with all of them and decide how you want to vote before you get to the polls. Many of the measures can be difficult to understand so researching beforehand will make it much easier to make your choice. A good resource for information is the California Secretary of State website sos.ca.gov/elections. Be sure to also search the Internet for nonpartisan websites that will state the facts clearly for each candidate as well as the propositions that will be on the ballot. Your ballot will also have information regarding all of the issues.
