The Chamber was happy to help again with this year’s Foothill Clean Up last Saturday, Oct. 22. Foothill Clean Up was a project that was started in the early 1990s by the CV Chamber. About 15 years ago the City of Glendale joined in and three years ago Glendale Clean & Beautiful came aboard. The event intentionally coincides with the annual nationwide Make a Difference Day, which happens the fourth Saturday in October. It’s a great opportunity for youth groups and other people to actively make a difference in their communities, in this case sprucing up our neighborhood’s main thoroughfare.
We’d like to thank all of our sponsors for this event, particularly Bob Smith Toyota for allowing us to use its lot as our main headquarters. Breakfast and lunch were served to the 80 or so hardworking volunteers there. Thank you to Burrtec for the large trash bin, which was filled by the end of the morning. Thanks to J’s Maintenance for the donation of 50 brooms. Those out cleaning the streets included youth and adults from K Kids (Kiwanis), St. James-Holy Redeemer School, CV High School, Clark High School, AF JROTC, Prom Plus, Girl Scouts, Brownies, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts.

Tonight is our annual Recognition Banquet. There may still be dinner seats available for $50. Call the office for more information.
Coming up in November, we’ll have a mixer on Wednesday, Nov. 9 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at US Bank in the Ralphs Marketplace shopping center. Hors d’oeuvres and refreshments will be served. Try to stop in before heading home that evening. You might just be the one winning the Chamber jackpot sponsored by USC Verdugo Hills Hospital. It’s up to a whopping $625! You must be a Chamber member in good standing and you must be present to win. Last month, Trevino Properties was drawn but sorry to say they were not “in the house.”
Also in November, we’ll be welcoming Mary LeVoy and Sue Friedrich to their new Hallmark Store, also in the Ralphs Marketplace. Join us on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 4 p.m. as we cut the red ribbon at Mary & Sue’s Hallmark. It coincides with a nationwide Hallmark store event so there should be lots of fun things to see and do.
Finally, feel free to stop by the Chamber office to see a large printout of the updates to the Foothill Boulevard medians project. Public Works and the Median Committee have proposed changes based on the results of traffic studies. Instead of two phases, the new plan can be completed in one phase. Construction should begin in early 2018. With our local businesses in mind, the Chamber made a special request to postpone construction until after the busy holiday season. See the plans at our office Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the address below.
Happy Halloween, La Crescenta!
