On Oct. 16, Lincoln Elementary School held its annual Mother-Son Olympian event for its 12th year. The event took place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the school’s auditorium and courtyard. Volunteering for the Olympian were members of the Dad’s Club, which is a PTA-esque organization where fathers of students meet once a month. Lincoln Elementary Dad’s Club has organized previous events including the silent auction during Parents’ Night and the Lincoln 500, a racetrack style event.

“We assist any way dads can help,” said Darren Hill, member of the Dad’s Club and father of two Lincoln Elementary students.

The mothers and sons were split up into 11 teams. The family-friendly Olympic-themed games included foam javelin tossing, water activities and cookie face, which consisted of participants using their face muscles to get a cookie into their mouths.

“Some games were recycled [from years prior]. We try to find new games and revamp older games, [so] students who come year after year don’t get bored,” said Hill.

At the end of the event, participants were awarded for their efforts with gold, silver and bronze colored medals.
