Wine Tasting in the Foothills
Stuart Byles, author of “Los Angeles Wine,” will be giving a presentation of wine history in L.A. and the foothill valleys followed by wine tasting of foothill wines. Local winemakers such as Lone Oak, Cherry Valley, Stone Barn Vineyard and Old Oak Cellars will be pouring. The event will be at the historic Lanterman House Visitor Center in La Cañada on Sunday, Oct. 30 starting at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 per person, available at the Lanterman House and at the door. Work Planned by SCE
Southern California Edison will be performing maintenance on the electrical system in the area. In order to perform this work safely, SCE must temporarily turn off power. This outage will allow the modernization of the grid by making needed upgrades and repairs to increase reliability. Power outages may cause some inconvenience and therefore attempts are made for outages to be isolated down to the smallest area possible and the work completed safely and quickly.
Work will start on Oct. 31 at 8 a.m. and end at 5 p.m. Seven residential customers will be affected and no commercial customers or traffic control meters will be affected. The outage boundary is Castle Knoll Road north of Los Amigos.
Additional work will begin on Nov. 1 at 9 a.m. and end at 6 p.m. at the north end of Revlon Drive east of Alminar. Thirteen residential customers and one commercial customer will be affected. Work will also take place at Rupert Lane east of Revlon Drive. Sixteen residential customers and one commercial customer will be affected.
Work also begins on Nov. 2 at 8 a.m. and ends at 4:30 p.m. on Encinas Drive south of Verdugo Boulevard and 45 residential customers and one commercial customer will be affected.

County Parks To Receive Improvements
The Board of Supervisors approved grants totaling more than $5 million that will improve park facilities in several communities in the Fifth Supervisorial District announced Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich. Among these is Crescenta Valley Park, which will receive $500,000 to rehabilitate restrooms and other related park amenities.
Originating from the Los Angeles County Safe Neighborhood Parks Proposition of 1996, the grant funding for these projects was allocated from available Specified Excess Funds.
Employers on Campus for Seasonal Hiring
Several local employers will be at Glendale Community College for the seasonal hiring spree today, Oct. 27 to fill seasonal jobs.
The event, sponsored by GCC’s Student Employment Services, will be held on Plaza Vaquero from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Macy’s hiring personnel will be on campus from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to hire hundreds of seasonal workers for stores in Glendale, Burbank, Pasadena, Sherman Oaks, Eagle Rock and Santa Anita. GCC Theatre Arts Presents ‘Elephant’s Graveyard’
“Elephant’s Graveyard” by George Brandt will be staged by the Glendale Community College Theatre Arts Dept. for a two-weekend run in the Auditorium Mainstage Theatre beginning Oct. 27. It is directed by Jeanette D. Farr with live music by Matthew Braaten.
Performances are Oct. 27, 28, 29, Nov. 3, 4 and 5 at 8 p.m. and Oct. 30 and Nov. 6 at 2 p.m. The play contains strong language and mild adult themes. There is no intermission. Tickets are $15 general admission and $12 for students and seniors. Tickets may be purchased online at www.glendalearts.org. They can also be purchased directly at the GCC box office before the show.

CV CERT Community Plan Day
CV CERT will meet to review and practice radio protocols, team locations and team leaders on Nov. 12 from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Participants should bring their Grab and Go Bags and wear their CV CERT shirt or vest and come and learn the new plan for Crescenta Valley. For those who can’t make it, please stop by the CV Sheriff’s Station at 4554 Briggs Ave. and register with your team and location to keep lists current.
