CV Town Council Elections this Week
The CV Town Council and CV Chamber will be saluting Supervisor Antonovich for his 35 years of service to the Crescenta Valley at the general meeting of the council tonight, Thursday, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. at the La Crescenta Library community room. All are invited. There will also be a candidates’ forum during the meeting. Also on the agenda is a presentation by Caltrans on its current projects.
Save the date of Dec. 1 at 5:30 p.m. for the second annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony at the La Crescenta Library.
La Crescenta Library is located at 2809 Foothill Blvd. in La Crescenta.
Mutt Strut is Saturday
The annual Mutt Strut, hosted by the California Council of the Blind, takes place at Crescenta Valley Park on Saturday, Nov. 19. The event attracts sighted and sight-impaired walkers and runners to the 5K, which are assisted by local volunteers.
Several booths will offer a variety of items for sale.
Registration for Mutt Strut is $40 for adults, $20 for students 13 years old to 18, and $10 for children 6 to 12. There is no charge for guides or any dogs that join their runners/walkers.

History of Babe Egan and Her Hollywood Redheads on Roster
Speaker Jeannie Gayle Pool will present the history of jazz violinist Babe Egan at the next meeting of the Historical Society of the Crescenta Valley on Monday, Nov. 21 at 7 p.m. Pool holds a Ph.D. from Claremont Graduate University and is a musicologist, composer and music producer.
Egan (1897-1966) had a band called The Hollywood Redheads that toured the vaudeville and theater circuits throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and Australia from 1924 until 1940. She started an all-girl band of California women in 1924 – mostly teenagers – who became vaudeville superstars. They were vaudeville superstars until 1933, and did two yearlong tours of Europe. At the end of her life she was a resident of Rockhaven Sanitarium in Montrose.
The meeting is open to all and is being held at the Center for Spiritual Living-La Crescenta, 4845 Dunsmore Ave. (corner of Dunsmore and Santa Carlotta).
Rosemont Preserve Open Gate
All are invited to the monthly “open gate” event on Sunday morning, Nov. 20 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Rosemont Preserve. This is a chance to visit the Preserve and wander the trail, enjoying the tranquil setting, the wildlife and the natural beauty. Friends of the Rosemont Preserve committee members will be available to answer questions.
The Preserve is located at the north end of Rosemont Avenue, just past the chain link fence. As street parking is limited, park at Two Strike Park, 5107 Rosemont Ave., La Crescenta. Please wear sturdy shoes to walk the trail.
This event is free to the public and suitable for all ages; no reservations required. Rain cancels event. Sorry, no pets please.

GUSD Seeking to Fill One SFAC Seat
Glendale Unified School District is currently soliciting applications to fill one open seat on the Superintendent’s Facility Advisory Committee (SFAC). A maximum of nine (9) community members may be appointed by the superintendent or designee to serve on the Committee.
It is a two-year commitment, with the possibility of a renewal at the end of the two years. The Committee meets twice a month on Mondays.
The SFAC is an advisory Committee on matters related to the implementation of Measure S and other Facilities projects. The purpose of the Committee is to make recommendations to the superintendent and board of education to ensure Measure S funds are utilized in a cost effective manner to provide facilities, technologies, and equipment that support the educational program as outlined in the provisions of Measure S and the District’s Strategic Plan.
Applications are now available on the GUSD website at www.GUSD.net. Deadline for submitting applications is Dec. 16.
Toy Drive Benefits St. Vincent de Paul Society
Allen Lund Company is hosting a toy drive to benefit St. Vincent de Paul Society. Accepting new, unwrapped toys for kids ages 3 to 14 until Dec. 7.

Jazz Band and Combo Performs At College
Glendale Community College’s jazz band and Thursday jazz combo will perform in concert on Sunday, Nov. 20 at 4 p.m. in the auditorium. Byron Delto and Chris Rios are the directors. The groups will perform arrangements of jazz and popular tunes.
Tickets are $10 general admission and $7 for students and seniors. Tickets are available at the box office before show time. Go to www.glendale.edu/music for information. The college is located at 1500 N. Verdugo Road.
