UPDATE: Stabbing and Suicide in Glendale

The Glendale Police Dept. has been investigating an attempted murder involving a Glendale man who  slashed his estranged wife’s throat. The following day, investigators learned the suspect had committed suicide by running in front of an Amtrak commuter train in the City of Glendale.

The stabbing incident occurred last Sunday, Nov. 20 at approximately 5:49 p.m. in the 3700 block of Mayfield Avenue near Boston Avenue. GPD received multiple 911 calls regarding a stabbing that had just occurred, and the victim had been found in the street by passerby witnesses.

Arriving officers located the 50-year-old female victim who had sustained a significant knife injury to her throat. The first officers on scene rendered medical aid until the victim was transported to a hospital where she underwent emergency surgery. Her condition is now stable. Through the course of the investigation, the victim’s estranged husband was identified as the suspect. Throughout the rest of the night and the following morning, detectives began actively searching for the suspect who was known to be living out of his vehicle.

On Monday, Nov. 21 at approximately 12 p.m., GPD received calls of a collision between an Amtrak train and a pedestrian near the intersection of San Fernando Road and Doran Street. The Glendale police and fire departments responded to the scene and found the deceased body of an adult male. According to witnesses at the scene, the adult male was standing near the tracks and had told a passerby that he wanted to end his life. That witness contacted a nearby business and asked members there to call the police as it appeared the male subject was going to commit suicide. At about that time, an Amtrak commuter train was traveling southbound, approaching Doran Streeet. As the train got closer, the male intentionally ran in front of the train and was struck.

The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene to investigate the death. The deceased male was identified as the husband of the knife victim. His vehicle was found parked near the tracks.

This incident is being investigated as a suicide.
