The Patrons Club of Glendale College changed things up this year with a new location for the annual luncheon and a different type of entertainment. The club’s annual fundraiser luncheon for student scholarships, “Dancing toward Success,” was held at the Oakmont Country Club on Friday, Nov. 4.
President Karen Wharton presented the club’s Woman of Distinction Award to Gael Davitt, wife of former college superintendent/president John Davitt. She was honored for her lifelong commitment to education and her support for Glendale College and the Patrons Club. Professor Emeritus Bart Edelman read her biography, highlighting her travels with her husband on behalf of the college to Washington, D.C., Japan and Prague.
President Wharton called for a moment of silence in remembrance of longtime member Gertrude Ness, who passed away on Aug. 28 at the remarkable age of 110.
Student dancers from the college’s dance department provided entertainment ranging from contemporary and ballet to hip-hop. Director Dora Krannig introduced each piece in the program.
The luncheon also featured live and silent auctions and a drawing for a grand prize of $1,000.
