Glendale Water & Power has issued a warning regarding impersonators calling their customers and using fear and intimidation tactics to force customers to immediately make a payment using a credit card or a prepaid money card. They threaten that water and power services will be disconnected otherwise. They may use “spoofing software” that displays the name and phone number of GWP on customers’ Caller ID.
GWP customers are urged to immediately hang up and not give the callers any personal information and to not pay.
• Call GWP at (818) 548-3300 to check account balances and to inform GWP about the scammer.
• Check your account status and make payments 24/7 online at
www.GlendaleWaterAndPower.com.
• Check your account status and make payments through the GWP Mobile App GWP My Connect.
• Pay bills through the GWP automated IVR System at (818) 548-3300 or in person.
Do not call any other number that the caller may give. Do not give any information to the caller, not even an account number, which can be used in future threats.
Customers should know that:
• GWP never makes outbound calls asking for payment or a customer’s credit card information.
• GWP never takes payments over the telephone with a live operator.
• GWP never visits residential customers to solicit program enrollment or ask for payments.
If it is necessary to make an electrical or water quality check, GWP will first inform customers or respond to requests for this service. GWP employees never enter a home to check for water quality; the water is tested at the outdoor hose bib. Always ask utility employees for proper identification and look for GWP vehicles.
