In Brief

Free Flu Shots at County Library
The LA County Dept. of Public Health is partnering with the County of L.A. Public Library to provide flu vaccines at no charge to people six months of age and older who don’t have health insurance or whose healthcare provider doesn’t offer flu vaccines. Clinic dates and times are subject to change. Please call to confirm before you go.
Those who have a severe egg allergy or are sick the day of the clinic should check with their doctor before getting vaccinated. Also participants should check with their regular health care provider to see what other shots may be needed. Those who don’t have a regular provider can call 2-1-1 (L.A. County Information Line) or visit www.publichealth.lacounty.gov/ip for a list of no cost or low-cost vaccine providers.
Shots will be provided at the La Crescenta Library on Friday, Dec. 16 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The library is located at 2809 Foothill Blvd.
Rosemont Preserve Open Gate Afternoon
An “open gate” event is taking place at the Rosemont Preserve on Sunday morning, Dec. 18. This is a chance for residents to visit the Preserve and wander the trail at their own pace and enjoy the tranquil setting, the wildlife and the natural beauty. Photographers: bring your camera to capture the morning light.
The gate will be open from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., and Friends of the Rosemont Preserve Committee members will be available to answer questions and present this community resource.
The Preserve is located at the north end of Rosemont Avenue, just past the chain link fence. As street parking is limited, please park at Two Strike Park, 5107 Rosemont Ave. Those planning on walking the trails should wear sturdy shoes.
This event is free to the public and suitable for all ages; no reservations required. Rain cancels. Sorry, no pets please.

GWP Launches Year Two of Pilot Program
Glendale Water & Power (GWP) in partnership with CEIVA Energy has launched the second year of its In-Home Display and Thermostat Pilot Program. The goal of the program is to improve customer awareness of energy consumption and provide tools that help shift electricity usage away from peak demand times. The two-year pilot program provides qualified residential customers with a free digital in-home display and a free smart thermostat. The in-home display connects to customers’ digital meter, allowing it to display real time electricity usage and near-real time water usage, conservation tips and other relevant information. Customers also receive a free smart thermostat that connects directly with the in-home display and digital meter. This connection allows customers to see the cost of their heating and air conditioning in real-time, control their smart thermostat from any smart phone or computer, and set money saving schedules. Both devices and installation are free.
To sign up for the program, customers must complete a brief questionnaire and customer agreement. For more information visit www.glendalewaterandpower.com.
