Tower Talk, and Delays, in Crescenta Valley

By Mary O’KEEFE

The Crescenta Valley area will be hearing about two different cellphone towers, one at Dunsmore Park and the other located in the parking lot of the Gethsemane Lutheran Church in the 2700 block of Orange Ave.

On Jan. 17 a hearing will be conducted at 320 W. Temple St., Hall of Records, Room 150 in Los Angeles at 1 p.m. The hearing will cover the request of a conditional use permit for the continued operation and maintenance of an existing unmanned wireless telecommunication facility, a cellphone tower. The tower already exists in the parking lot at the church and is disguised as a faux pine tree. Anyone who would like to can comment on the tower that serves T-Mobile and AT&T.

Representatives from the Eukon Group were to speak at the Glendale City Council meeting yesterday to appeal an earlier decision rejecting a proposed 60-foot tower by the City of Glendale Planning Commission; however, that appearance was postponed until April 2017.

Community members have voiced their oppositions and concerns about the proposed tower, which AT&T would like to place in the southeast corner of Dunsmore Park by the grass hill and baseball field.

The Commission denied the permit on July 20.
