The dual purpose of the California Women’s Chorus, Inc. (CWC), a non-profit organization, is to promote choral singing among women and philanthropically to raise funds for vocal music scholarships. Recipients of three scholarships will be selected by an audition process. Students may audition if they are studying voice in college or with a private vocal instructor and are between the ages of 18-24. Students must provide their own accompanist for the audition. Since only 25 applicants will be chosen it would be best to get the application in early. The students will vie for the opportunity to be awarded one of three $2,000 scholarships. The money is to be used to further the winners’ education in vocal studies. Further requirements and instructions are listed on the website cwchorus.com.
Auditions will be held at La Crescenta First Baptist Church, 4441 La Crescenta Ave. starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017. The three winners, chosen by professional adjudicators, will perform at the CWC annual public concert on April 30, 2017 at the Glendale Hilton Hotel, 100 W. Glenoaks Blvd. in Glendale.
The three adjudicators chosen to judge the auditions are Shirley Nute, Rhonda Dillon and Renee Sousa.
Audition information has been sent to private and college voice instructors. Information and applications may be found on the California Women’s Chorus, Inc. website cwchorus.com.
Applications should be completed and sent to Jeanne Long, 3420 Fairesta St., La Crescenta, CA 91214. They must be received by Jan. 30, 2017. A $40 check payable to California Women’s Chorus, Inc. must be included with the application.
