Ribbon Cutting & Open House at The Inquiry Academy
Please join the Montrose Chamber as we welcome The Inquiry Academy to the community! We will have a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, Dec. 16 at 3 p.m. Then feel free to stick around for the open house until 6 p.m. You can enjoy light snacks and workshop demonstrations and give yourself an opportunity to learn about the unique workshops that they offer. Owner and founder of The Inquiry Academy, Caitlin Wong, has a history of experience in the field of education and has taught children of all ages, ranging from preschool to high school. She has spent the last 14 years as an elementary school teacher for Los Angeles and most recently in La Cañada. Holding a multiple subject California teaching credential with CLAD certification and a master’s degree in child development, she has also received in 2010 what is considered to be “the most respected professional certification available in education” – the National Board Certification in Literacy.
Caitlin brings something unique to Montrose and we are excited to see where she takes us. According to Caitlin, “Our space is designed to best support student-led learning, creativity and curiosity. Our hope is that the design of our space will promote a comforting, safe and relaxing environment for your child to flourish.
“Our performance and design-based learning Inquiry Workshops and Labs drive open-ended opportunities to explore the applied skills of the Habits of Mind, engage in critical analysis, and provide complex problem-solving platforms for students to structure deep reasoning skills within an innovative learning environment. Course structure will utilize the CSQ (Claim, Support, Question) Inquiry method, engaging students in making predictions, analyzing data, looking for patterns, making generalizations, weighing evidence and raising questions to gain deep understanding of concepts. Knowing is not enough; understanding is the goal. The student-centered inquiry approach focuses on using and learning content as a means to develop information-processing, problem-solving skills, and connect to understanding. Students engage in the construction of ‘how we come to know’ through active involvement to construct in-depth knowledge. It provokes students to think and question and make meaning through collaborative discourse.”
