A man was transported to the hospital after an accidental shooting at the Angeles Shooting Ranges in Lake View Terrace on Sunday afternoon.

“There was one male behind the firing line clearing his gun [who] accidentally shot his weapon,” said Sgt. Coussa, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Dept. Crescenta Valley Station.

The man had his gun pointed downrange. It appeared he did not realize there was a “round in the chamber,” Coussa said.

According to witnesses there were medics and police officers at the range at the time of the shooting who responded to the man’s injuries immediately. They continued to help until paramedics arrived.

The victim was shot in the abdomen and was transported to a local hospital in stable condition via Los Angeles County Sheriff’s helicopter.

The investigation is ongoing but detectives feel at this time it was an accidental shooting.
