n the midst of a busy schedule, the Crescenta Valley High School boys’ basketball team is trying to put the memory of an ugly loss last week behind it.

Heading into Wednesday’s action at Glendale High, the Falcons were 10-5 and 2-1 in the Pacific League after a thorough beat-down of Hoover High School on Monday. Crescenta Valley’s 90-43 win over the Tornadoes came a few days after the Pasadena Bulldogs came to CVHS and gave the Falcons a smacking, walking away with a 75-51 win.

Pasadena used its size and speed to bully the Falcons down low. Bryce Hamilton led the way with 23 points and 14 rebounds as the Bulldogs outscored the Falcons 26-8 in the second quarter to run away with the game. CV’s Journey Shank was the only player on his team to score in double digits (11 points).

Monday’s game against Hoover was a much better showing. After a slow first quarter where the Falcons looked discombobulated, even though they held a 14-11 lead, things gradually fell into place. Crescenta Valley led at halftime 42-28, and then exploded in the third quarter, scoring 17 unanswered points within the first three minutes of the second half before Hoover (6-9, 0-3) converted a free throw shortly thereafter to stop the run.

Koko Kechichian had a game high 24 points to lead the Falcons. Trey Ballard put in 16 points, finding his shot from beyond the arc that abandoned him vs. Pasadena, and Shank muscled his way to the basket time and again for 15 points.

The Falcons are on the road Friday night as they head to Muir High School at 7 p.m.

The Lady Falcons’ basketball team also had an easy time with the Tornadoes on Monday at Hoover. CV’s Rachel Dayag had 16 points as the Falcons improved to 11-5 overall and 3-0 in league as they headed into Wednesday’s game with Glendale. The girls are back on Friday at Muir at 5:30 p.m. before the boys play. Next week the girls host Burroughs on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
