The Village Christian High School baseball team won its opening Olympic League game on Tuesday, 2-0 road victory at Heritage Christian. Sophomore Tobias Plotkin earned the win on the mound. He went six innings, gave up six hits and struck out seven batters, with a walk. Plotkin also went two-for-four at the plate, with a single and a double.
The Crusaders scored their runs in the first and fifth innings. Kenny Aceves went two-for-three with a double, and Connor Rodriguez had a sac fly in the fifth. Village totaled 11 hits in all. Aiden Holly came on for the save to end the game.
This was the second shutout in a row for the team. Village won March 4 in a non-league game against North Hollywood 6-0. Plotkin had a solid game at the plate that day, picking up two RBIs. Pitcher Eric Oseguera picked up his second win as he threw a complete game, with 11 strikeouts.
Village is 4-1 overall. The team, led by Head Coach Chris Casey, plays today at home vs Channel Islands, a non-league opponent. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
