The Lions Club recently hosted its annual Zone Speaker Contest. Competing were Kevin Park, the winner from the Crescenta-Cañada Lions Club contest, and Kiyan Atrian, winner from the Northridge Lions Club contest.

The March competition was the 80th Annual Student Speakers Contest. It was sponsored by Multiple District Four, California Lions, and includes Lions Clubs from the entire state of California.

The annual contest is open to any high school student. Each year a topic is picked on which the speakers present their speech. This year’s topic was, “Is the Right to Privacy a Threat to Our National Security?”

After deliberating, the judges chose Park the winner. He received a check for $150 and moved on to the Region Contest, held on March 16 in Reseda. Park also won that competition, securing a check for $250 and the opportunity to take part in the District Contest with a prize of a $4,500 scholarship. That contest takes place on April 22.
