You can’t stroll the streets of the Montrose Shopping Park these days without drinking in the striking beauty of our pink trumpet trees, aka tabebuia impetiginosa, one of the most beautiful flowering trees in the world. Its bright blooms fill the sky every spring with a gentle pink color for several weeks. Enjoy them while you can!
Some 50 years ago the founding fathers of the Montrose Shopping Park designed a gently weaving Honolulu Avenue roadway so that anyone driving through town would not just slow down a bit, but also look left, then right, then left as they travel the three blocks of our lovely village and see our shops. Thank you, guys!
So our pink trumpets are blooming and they are announcing a number of national celebrations coming our way this month. Everyone knows that April 15 is National Tax Day (eeeww), but did you know that next Wednesday, April 5 is National Walking Day? We invite you to walk, shop and dine right here and enjoy our beautiful spring foliage!
Coming up April 11 is National Submarine Day (can’t help you there) but it is also National Barbershop Quartet Day, so maybe you can catch the fellas singing at Tony’s Barbershop, 2208 Honolulu Ave., or Montrose Barbershop, 3810 Ocean View Blvd., a Shopping Park staple for over 71 years! Or perhaps the guys at our newest tonsorial parlor might be harmonizing down at Primo Barbershop, 2421 Honolulu Ave.
This week our Sunday Market features Mountain Lilac flowers, cherimoya and green house cucumbers. And for the kids, free balloons at the Market Information booth and a new game area including ring toss, Jenga blocks, giant tinker toys and a giant Connect 4 game. Music this week will feature the sounds of the Hill Street Jazz band. On Sundays many of our shops and restaurants are open for your shopping and dining pleasure.
