Spring has sprung in the Crescenta Valley with gorgeous blooms and gentle breezes. This month sees quite a few activities for the family. Here’s a roundup:
Tonight, April 6, and Saturday, April 8 there will be Easter egg hunts for the little ones. Thursday’s hunt is at Crescenta Valley Park from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturday’s will be at Two Strike Park from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The free event is meant for all ages and includes Easter basket giveaways, coloring contests and photos with the Easter Bunny. Thank you to the LA County Dept. of Parks and Recreation. They’re right … Parks really do make life better!
On Wednesday, April 12 we’ll have our monthly mixer at Jennifer Drew’s Farmers Insurance office at 2948½ Honolulu Ave., La Crescenta. We held a ribbon cutting for Jennifer a little over a year ago so it will be fun to check in with her now that the agency is up and running. They promise yummy food and drink. Admission is $7 for members, $9 for non-members. Do you know we haven’t raised our mixer prices in years? It’s one of the best values around. And the jackpot drawing, sponsored by USC Verdugo Hills Hospital, is up to a whopping $750! You must be present to win so come on down to Jennifer Drew’s next Wednesday at 6 p.m. and bring a friend!
Saturday, April 22 sees a couple of events. The Community Prayer Breakfast is always a special affair with leaders from various religious institutions in attendance and often leading invocations. The remarkable CV High School Charismatics will perform and Christie Frandsen, a teacher, leader and mother of 11, will speak on “Creating Peace in a Tumultuous World.” The breakfast goes from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of La Crescenta, 4441 La Crescenta Ave. Tickets are $10 (free for students) and are available at the Chamber office or by calling Danette Erickson at (818) 249-9577.
On the 22nd in the evening, Prom Plus is putting on a bingo game at the American Legion Hall at 4011 La Crescenta Ave. Come support an important cause – a safe after-prom gathering place for all CVHS prom-goers. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. and admission is $10 for 10 games.
And on April 29, it’s the one, the only, Hometown Country Fair! We expect 5,000 or more people at this annual event at CV Park. We’re really focusing on making it fun for the kids with new inflatables and carnival rides plus free activities, like the YMCA’s GaGa pit, animal exhibits, face painting and more. The world famous dog parade will happen around 1:30 p.m. and the pie-eating contest is shortly before at 12:30 p.m. We’ll have music and dance all day long and karaoke in the afternoon. Check this column for a schedule of performances a few days before the event. Plus we’ll have food and snacks galore. Look in your child’s Thursday folder or e-bulletin for a coupon that gives $1 back to the school of your choice for every $5 hamburger meal purchased at the fair. They’re freshly barbecued burgers from Gelsinger’s meats!
Exhibitor booths are still available. Contact the Chamber office at (818) 248-4957.
