MSPA Celebrates Spring Wine Walk

By Nicole MOORE

On Thursday, the Montrose Shopping Park Association held its monthly meeting. The meeting began by highlighting the success of the first annual Montrose Spring Wine Walk. The $45-per-ticket event took place on March 18 with a portion of the ticket sales donated to the La Crescenta Woman’s Club, a co-sponsor of the Wine Walk. A check was presented to a representative of the La Crescenta Woman’s Club, a 106-year-old philanthropic organization, during the meeting.

Because of the positive response, the MSPA plans on making the Montrose Wine Walk a semi-annual event.

Also at the meeting was Glendale mayor Paula Devine, who congratulated the MSPA committee members on the Wine Walk’s impressive turnout.

“The Wine Walk was absolutely fantastic and all night I had great conversations [with those in attendance],” said Devine. “Many people said they didn’t realize shops they were in were [even there]. People were dining and shopping in restaurants and stores they had never [previously] come into.”

Devine also announced the Glendale Central Library will be reopening on May 1 at 10 a.m. The library is hosting an event, open to the public, with live music and refreshments offered throughout the day. Devine also said that the City of Glendale’s Emmy-winning graphic design department, which created the “Meet Me on Brand” campaign, is teaming up with the Montrose Shopping Park. The new campaign will appropriately be called “Meet Me in Montrose.”

Representatives from the City of Glendale’s educational campaign “Be Street Smart Glendale” promoted their “One Billion Step Challenge.” Glendale residents can join the challenge by signing up on the “Be Street Smart Glendale” website. As of March, participants of the challenge have walked over 31 million steps. Similarly, the Glendale Education Foundation is hosting the Kid’s Fitness Challenge on April 29 at Verdugo Park from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The exercise-oriented event is appropriate for children of all ages.

The next MSPA meeting will be held on May 4 at Glendale Community College PDC, 2340 Honolulu Ave. at 8 a.m. The meeting is open to the general public.
