Happy Dancing Brain at VV

Cheryl Hamel’s 2nd grade boys showing off their moves

In March, Valley View Elementary held its Happy Dancing Brain dance recital. Valley View was one of two schools in Glendale to receive a grant to have a professional dance studio come and teach the students for nine weeks.

Instructor Sopie Olson and The SODE School of Performing Arts encouraged students to experience dance while focusing on building creativity and self-confidence. Students in grades one through three were introduced to jazz, contemporary and Latin dances and learned how to count beats, make shapes and follow patterns to the music.

Thanks are extended to Arts For All for funding this program and to Janet Buhl, assistant director of Student Services for writing the grant. Congratulations to the dance performers for their efforts and dedication in providing such an incredible performance and event.
