Food For Thought

I admit it – I am a foodie. I love food. Though I am not necessarily adventurous in my culinary exploration, I do enjoy being introduced to some new flavors that are within my comfort zone (which I am trying to expand). At a recent Prom Plus meeting, one of our board members said how delicious a sauce was that was made of grape jelly and barbecue sauce. My initial reaction was “bleh!” but another board member quickly nodded her agreement. So even at the most basic level I need to broaden my horizons.

And what is more basic than the all-American hamburger? On Tuesday night I was invited to a preview at Bourbon Steak of “Love LA” Burger Month featuring pours from Modern Times brewery. Bourbon Steak is one of my all-time favorite Happy Hour spots and the family and I have often gone there to enjoy high-end appetizers and crafted cocktails. Because space is limited in this column, I’ll give you a complete overview of my experience at Bourbon Steak next week in the Travel & Leisure section.

It is with the same high level of expectation I brought to Bourbon Steak on Tuesday night that I look ahead to Taste of Montrose on Sunday. Montrose has become a dining destination and Prom Plus is eager to share the offerings of many of our local restaurants. Many restaurants along Honolulu Avenue are opening their doors on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to Taste of Montrose ticketholders, preparing samples of their fare. Among these are New Moon, Amber Road, Zeke’s, Montrose Town Kitchen & Grill, Pepe’s Mexican Restaurant, Froyo, ETC Gourmet Kitchen, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Big Mama’s & Papa’s and Rest Farmhouse Inspired. In our food court on Ocean View Boulevard at Honolulu Avenue you’ll have the chance to taste food from Frank’s Famous Kitchen, Mountview (yes, their kitchen is that good!), Togos, Dream Dinners and more! Tickets are just $20 and all proceeds benefit Prom Plus, the after-prom event held for Crescenta Valley High School seniors and their guests.

And if you’re still not convinced that Taste of Montrose will keep you busy, Honolulu Avenue is hopping on Sunday. The Prom Plus Taste of Montrose is just one of the many things going on along the avenue as part of the annual Kids N Kritters and Wags N Whiskers events. Fashion shows, live exotic animals and music, along with the weekly Harvest Market, mean that there will be plenty to do for the entire family.

Mark your calendar now to attend the fun along Honolulu on Sunday – rain or shine – and prepare your taste buds to be delighted after buying a ticket for Taste of Montrose. Tickets are available at the offices of CV Weekly, the CV Chamber of Commerce, Merle Norman Cosmetics and at our booth at our food court at Honolulu and Ocean View on Sunday.
