CV Town Council Meets Tonight

The general meeting of the Crescenta Valley Town Council is tonight, Thursday, May 18 at the La Crescenta Library. On the agenda is a presentation by Joseph M. Nicchitta of the Office of Marijuana Management. He will speak about the County’s efforts to develop regulations for commercial cannabis in Los Angeles County.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m.

The La Crescenta Library is located at 2809 Foothill Blvd. in La Crescenta.

 

CVCA Hosts Councilman Agajanian

The Crescenta Valley Community Association will host recently elected Glendale City Councilmember Vrej Agajanian at our meeting starting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 25 at the La Crescenta Library. Awards Presented Today

Glendale Beautiful’s “Awards Day” will be held today, Thursday, May 18 at 3 p.m. at the Joe Bridges Community Clubhouse, Glenoaks Park, 2531 E. Glenoaks Blvd., Glendale. Commercial and multi-family residential properties highlighted for their attractive and sustainable landscaping include Azera Apartments; Salem Lutheran Church/School; Wing Stop and Leslie’s Pool Supply; and Pretty Nails. The City of Glendale will receive a special award for Palmer Park renovations.

Coffee and light refreshments will be served at no cost, donations gratefully accepted to support the work of Glendale Beautiful.

Rosemont Preserve Open Gate Afternoon

An “open gate” event is taking place at the Rosemont Preserve on Sunday morning, May 21. This is a chance for residents to visit the Preserve and wander the trail at their own pace and enjoy the tranquil setting, the wildlife and the natural beauty.

The gate will be open from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., and Friends of the Rosemont Preserve Committee members will be available to answer questions and present this community resource.

The Preserve is located at the north end of Rosemont Avenue, just past the chain link fence. As street parking is limited, please park at Two Strike Park, 5107 Rosemont Ave. Those planning on walking the trails should wear sturdy shoes.

This event is free to the public and suitable for all ages; no reservations required. Rain cancels. Sorry, no pets please.

Deukmejian Wilderness Park Workday

All are invited to take part in the monthly workday at Deukmejian Wilderness Park on Saturday, May 20. Workers are needed at the park from 8 a.m. to noon for tree watering and weeding. No need to register; just come out to the park for a morning of fun in the sun.

Deukmejian Wilderness Park is located at 3429 Markridge Road in La Crescenta.

 

Robot Explorers Topic of GCC Talk

“Robot Explorers: Technology for a New Age of Ocean Conservation” will be presented at Glendale Community College from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 23 in Cimmarusti Science Center room 177 as part of the GCC Science Lecture Series.

The speaker is former GCC student Antonella Wilby, currently a doctoral student of computer science at UC San Diego and a National Geographic explorer. She will discuss three different applications for which she is developing robotic solutions: 3D mapping algorithms for aiding biologists in understanding coral reef ecosystems, autonomous underwater cameras for studying endangered marine species, and using Virtual Reality for ocean conservation education.

Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee Member Sought

Glendale Unified School District is currently soliciting applications to fill one open seat on the Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee (CBOC). The Committee must have a minimum of seven (7) members appointed by the board of education of the Glendale Unified School District.

It is a two-year commitment. The Committee meets quarterly.

The CBOC was established in accordance with the strict accountability in Local School Construction Bond Act of 2000. The purpose of the Committee is to oversee the expenditures of bond proceeds generated from Measure S, the general obligation bond for school construction passed in April 2011 by the residents of Glendale Unified School District.

Expertise in areas such as architecture, engineering, construction, law, educational administration, financial management, real estate/development, construction management, and/or public administration is highly valued but is not required.

Applications are now available on the GUSD website at www.GUSD.net. Deadline for submitting applications is June 9.

SCE Inspections, Installations

SCE is in the process of conducting inspections and will install automation devices on recently upgraded electrical infrastructures (poles, wires, transformers, etc.) in Crescenta Valley. It anticipates that this process will be completed by mid-June. SCE states that it will do everything possible to avoid Foothill Boulevard and school drop-off/pick-up zones during rush hours.
