»Crescenta Valley Chamber of Commerce “Our Business is Your Business”

Welcome New Members

April saw two new businesses join the CV Chamber. People tell me they love hearing about new members so here are our latest.

The name Sky Sprowles may ring a bell with some. He’s been a La Cañada resident for close to 30 years. Around 15 years ago, he even managed the La Cañada Chamber of Commerce. The inimitable Pat Anderson took that over as he moved on to work for Village Profile, a national publisher creating maps for various chambers (the Crescenta Valley Chamber included). Sprowles then worked with Best Version Media to publish the local La Cañada Flintridge Neighbors magazine. So he is no stranger to publishing and advertising. After some time off, he’s back in the game with his latest endeavor, Register Tapes Unlimited, L.P.

“Advertising your business on the back of register tapes at Ralphs, Vons and other markets is truly being in the community at the base level,” said Sprowles. “It’s the opposite of online. Until we buy our groceries online, we need to go the market and interact with people.” With only 12 ads on any register tape, your business gets quite a bit of exposure.

Sprowles joined the CV Chamber because, as he said, “If you intend to do any business in the community, joining the Chamber puts you right in the middle of it. It’s fundamental, a no-brainer. It’s a very credible way to show your commitment to the community you’re serving. Plus the Chamber can be my eyes and ears.”

Sky Sprowles is happy to advise Chamber members and all local businesses about ways to get the most out of their advertising dollar. Contact him at (818) 339-6641 or SkySprowles@yahoo.com. Learn more about Register Tapes Unlimited, L.P. at www.RTUI.com.

Our second new member is a community mainstay, the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf at the corner of Ocean View and Honolulu in Montrose. General Manager Joseph Holguin has been heading up the operations there for four years.

“I joined the Chamber because I’ve always wanted to be part of community relations,” said Holguin. “I’m into doing donations and helping anyone who seeks us out. It makes me feel like I’ve accomplished something and proud of the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf company.”

Having grown up in East L.A., Holguin is constantly impressed with what a nice area Montrose is. “Everyone knows each other, the customers and the employees went to school together.” Asking Holguin how he feels Coffee Bean fills the needs of local residents, he responded, “Montrose is a huge coffee-drinking community. There are a lot of walkers and retirees who want a high-quality, affordable product made fresh and made quickly.”

At Coffee Bean, they grind the roasted beans moments before brewing and they don’t use any syrups for flavoring, just proprietary blends with natural flavors. Teens obviously love hanging out there too. The free WiFi is a big draw.

“We don’t want you to leave!” said Holguin. “We want you to stay as long as you like.”

We thank Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf for providing gallons of fresh coffee at our recent Hometown Country Fair. I’m sure they’ll be supporting the Chamber again in the future. (Thank you!) Contact Joseph Holguin at (818) 249-7848 for all your coffee, tea and catering needs.
