“It is fitting and proper that we devote one day each year to paying tribute to the Armed Forces as the servants and protectors of our Nation … I call upon my fellow citizens to display the flag of the United States at their homes on Armed Forces Day and to participate in exercises expressive of our recognition of the skill, gallantry, and uncompromising devotion to duty characteristic of the Armed Forces in the carrying out of their missions.”

On Saturday at Crescenta Valley Park, the American Legion Post 288 and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 1614 recognized Armed Forces Day with classic cars, law enforcement, and military and veteran-owned businesses.

The heat was on, but veterans can deal with a little heat, especially when it was to recognize their fellow service men and women.

This year in addition to recognizing those who serve the country past and present, they also honored one of their own, Capt. Gerald (Jerry) L. Peterson, USNR (Ret) who died in August 2016.
