The community is mourning the loss of a 19-year-old Crescenta Valley High School graduate after a fatal motorcycle accident on Tuesday evening. Glendale Police Dept. has released the name of the victim – Michael Nelson, a La Crescenta resident.
“The collision, which involved a vehicle and a motorcycle, occurred just after 6 p.m. at the intersection of Foothill Boulevard and New York Avenue,” GPD stated in a press release.
Nelson was driving the motorcycle; the driver of the other vehicle was a 60-year-old La Crescenta woman who remained on scene and was not impaired, according to GPD.
“Speed was not a factor,” added Officer Robert William.
Nelson sustained significant injuries and was transported to the hospital where he later died, GPD stated.
Nelson’s family and several friends met at the hospital and waited for word on his condition while others waited at Montrose Church during an impromptu vigil.
“He was a good kid with a great laugh and a great personality,” stated his mother Debbie through a friend.
The family requests photos of Michael be sent to erikanelson1314@gmail.com.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation. Investigators are speaking to several witnesses and are reviewing surveillance footage of the area.
